Melancholia

Chiara Fantaccione

curated by Valentina Muzi

OPENING 12.04.25

Melancholia is Chiara Fantaccione solo show curated by Valentina Muzi.

The artist’s research explores the idealized representation of Nature and landscape through attributing them qualities belonging to the human world. The issue of melancholy is here closely related to the technological dimension and digital failures through a seductive and aesthetic connotation.

Complex and ambivalent, melancholia (or melancholy) is a pathological alteration of mood, marked by an unmotivated sadness and inhibition to life.

In its current dimension, this cloudy feeling is closely linked to contemporary social problems, becoming a theme that not only questions the individual, but the entire community, permeated by a technology that "instead of connecting, aims to destroy", as analyzed by Geert Lovink in his 'Sad by Design, On Platform Nihilism'.

Artist

Chiara Fantaccione

(b. 1991, Terni - Italy)

Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and later from RUFA - Rome University of Fine Arts. Her artistic research is based on the use of image in the contemporary era and particularly on its superposition to reality. Analyzing the genres belonging to art history and photography, dictated by criteria and similarities that make them clichés, she uses real objects, photographic images and digital devices, tapping into the visual experience of the observer to question the practice of representation. Since 2017 she’s part of ‘Spazio In Situ’ a Roman artists’ collective.
